GOVERNOR’S MONTHLY LETTER AUGUST 2026 Saving Masasa: Protecting a Beach, Sustaining a Community By: IPP Albert Villaluz For the people of Tingloy, Masasa Beach is more than a scenic destination. Its coastline, coral reefs, and marine life support tourism and provide livelihoods for local families. However, waste along the shore threatens this delicate ecosystem—and the community that depends on it. Before sunrise, members of the Rotary Club of Roosevelt were already preparing for a meaningful day of service. Led by Legacy President May Aldovino, the club joined the people of Tingloy in a coastal cleanup to help preserve the beach and protect its natural resources. Working side by side, Rotarians and community members cleared waste from the shoreline and surrounding areas. The club also donated cleaning materials to help residents continue caring for the beach beyond the activity. This support transformed a one-day cleanup into a shared commitment to long-term environmental stewardship. The impact extended far beyond a cleaner coastline. By helping protect Masasa Beach, the project contributed to the preservation of marine life, encouraged responsible tourism, and supported families whose livelihoods rely on the area’s natural beauty. It also strengthened the community’s ability to maintain the beach and inspired a greater sense of shared responsibility for its future. The activity showed that protecting the environment is also an act of service to people. Every piece of waste removed helped safeguard an ecosystem. Every cleaning material donated equipped the community to continue the work. Every volunteer demonstrated what can be achieved through collective action. At Masasa Beach, service did not end at the shoreline. It helped protect a natural treasure, sustain local livelihoods, and build a better future for Tingloy. When we come together for a common goal, a single day of service can make a lasting difference! Rotary Club of Roosevelt
